Money & ATM’s

Use of Money in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka the currency is Sri Lankan rupes (Rs). You can get 2000 , 1000 , 500 , 100 , 50 , 20 , 10 notes and coins from 10 , 5 , 2 , 1, 50 cents and 25 cents.

Credit Cards – ATMs

If you are using Credit cards most of the shops, stores, hotels restaurants accept major Credit cards (Visa , Master and Amex) Debit cards are not accepted in shops but you can withdraw money from Debit cards with the logo of Cirrus, Maestro and Visa Electron. ATM’s are located in all around the country most of them are @ bank brunches.

Money Exchange

All banks change traveler’s cheques. Thomas Cook and American Express are widely used and recognized in Sri Lanka. Banking hours are 9 /9.30 to 5/5.30 Monday to Friday. The difference of Exchange rates from bank to bank is not that much.
